Number of cards available
When collectible cards were introduced in October 2008, there were 98 different cards of two basic types (terrain and monsters) in four different 'families' of cards (fire, water, ice, grass).
As of October 2008, there are 102 different common cards and 9 rare cards. More collectible cards will certainly be added later on.
Where to find cards
A starter pack (of 8 cards) can be purchased in the Castle Soupir.
Besides those 8 cards, more collectible cards can be collected by doing quests on the main island. Players should check for quests that can be completed multiple times.
There is also rumored to be a card swap shop somewhere on the main island where players can trade two unwanted cards for a random card.
Deck management
Before playing with the cards, it is mandatory to create a deck. A deck is a set of cards you will use during a game. To form a deck you need to use 30 cards, where you can use up to 3 of any one card. A good strategy would be to have a deck formed with only one element family.
Game rules
The game is played by turns and phases. Within a turn there is 3 phases:
- Deploy
- Prepare attack / defense
- Attack and defense calculated
During the deploy phase you will be able to draw new cards, drop cards you don't want, place attack/defense cards or use special cards.
Terrain cards need to be "used" in order to sum up the terrain points needed to invoke other kind of cards. All other cards requires some terrain point before being able to be invoked.
Once a terrain card has been used, it disappears from your hand and will simply appear as terrain point on the top right part of the screen.
Once you invoke any other kind of card, terrain points will be used, and you will need again to accumulate new terrain points before being able to invoke new cards.
During the second phase, you can decide either to attack using one of the cards on the table, or if you don't use the card for this turn it will automatically be used for defense.
The last phase is automatically handled, and will be the attacks / defense of both players.
When a card is attacking, its attack points are used to calculate the maximum damage produced. If the opponent left some cards in defense mode (which mean he/she didn't used the card as attacking card for this turn), the card with the maximum defense will be used to absorb the damages. Defense points are then used, and will not re-generate. Damage points exceeding the defense points will damage the player HP.
The first player reaching 0 HP will lose the card battle.
Card Types
Additionally to terrain cards and monster cards, the game contains other kind of cards:
- Kill one opponent: allows to destroy one card from the player table.
- Modify one card: allows to modify one card placed on your table.
- Modify all cards: allows to modify all cards placed on your table.
- Restoration: allows to restore some of your own HP.
