How to play

After you register and enter the game for the first time, you will be involved in the main quest, requiring you to make some decisions by clicking on the possible choices. You should think before clicking- most choices are only presented to you once in the game. At any rate, do not worry - none of your actions will prevent you from playing further. Your decisions will however, influence what you are able to do in the game. The interaction in this game is done partially with text and partially via the 2D and 2.5D maps, as well as other quest-specific interfaces.

Getting Started

The first screen you should see will be in the text interface. Read all of the text, and click on the link below it that makes the most sense to you. Once you are finished there, click on the only link that takes you out and you will see the 2D map. Follow the road up and to the first right turn that you see. This will take you to Castle Soupir, the busiest town on the main island.

You will be taken to the text interface once again, thus starting on the main quest. After this, Castle Soupir will show up as it normally would every time you enter, unless you take up pickpocketting or try to enter without certain types of item (like pants or shoes) equipped.

After this, what you do in the game is pretty much up to you. It is reccomended that you upgrade your stats as soon as possible, though. The box labelled "Menu" to the left of your main screen has a link named "Stats/Skills". The word "Update!" will show up in red when you have some unspent stat points.

You get more stat points every time you level up. There is a little box at the top that will tell you which one is good for what attribute of the game.

Questing

To do a quest, you simply do what your journal tells you to. Read all of your journal entries, because they often contain valuable hints!

There are many quests on NEaB, each one with its own solution. Trying to stick with just one until you have solved it is a good idea, but sometimes, they can be quite difficult. It's okay ask questions in the chat about your quest, just remember not to ask for spoilers! If you are really stuck, you can try the hints section located in this Wiki, or taking a break from the quest and coming back to it later.

While you are a low level, you should stay on the main island. Once you are stronger, you can go to player-made islands and try the quests there.

Gold and Freebies

Of course, every new player on every MMORPG wants to know how to make money and get freebies right away.

For newbies, the best way to make a quick sack of gold is to fight monsters. Don't worry about dying; you will be resurrected at Castle Soupir when this happens, and for a while, Hemphirius will heal you for free.

Another useful freebie is the food for the poor in Castle Soupir. An NPC named Carmen will feed you when your fullness (the yellow bar in your stats box) is running low.

Once you have some money, a few things that you should do with it are:

- Invest in health potions so that you will not die as often in fights. While you are still low-level, Cheap Health Potions should do. The market of player-run shops in Castle Soupir often has lower priced Cheap Health Potions than the NPC shop.

- Rent a dungeon room from another player. Sometimes, these are offered for free. Check the news board, forum, and ask in the chat room (remember not to beg!) to see if there are any free or cheap deals for new players in the dungeons. When you have your dungeon room, you can store your gold in a chest and use a bed to regain your Hit Points and Mana.

- Once you have 5,000 gold, get a shop. It may seem expensive to you at first, but as long as you re-stock it once in a while, you can make millions out of it.
